Curious about Wine Flour? Learn how we make our Send Me Cabernet Wine Waffles.
What is Wine Flour?
Each year for Valentine's Day, we make our limited release Send Me Cabernet Wine waffles. These waffles are made using a very special ingredient - Wine Flour.
As with many of our ingredients, we obtain this ingredient locally from the Finger Lakes Region of New York. This region is known as one of the largest wine producing regions in the U.S. While, most famous for its white wines, the vineyards also grow a few varieties of red grapes including one called Cabernet Franc.
How is wine flour made? The flour is made from the byproduct of pressing the grapes to make wine. The wineries press the grapes for their juice. This leaves pomace leftover that the wineries do not use. The pomace is brought to Wine Flour's flour mill where the grape seeds and skins are hand sorted, separated, sun dried and artisan stone milled.
We substitute some of the flour in our waffles for the wine flour to produce a uniquely flavored and colored Belgian Liege Waffle perfect for Valentine's Day. Send Me Cabernet Wine waffles are fruity, just like the Cabernet Franc grape, and pair well with chocolate, peanut butter or sharp cheese.
